Acu-OW-puncture
I had my first acupuncture treatment today. I was kind of leery about doing it at all, but I've read that it can help so much with IVF, I figured it can't hurt. One study goes so far as to say it almost doubles the success rates of IVF!
My acupuncturist is Hannah. She only treats women. When I first contacted her, she sent me a ton of paperwork. There were about 6 pages of questions to assist in her Chinese diagnosis and treatment plan. Since I've got unexplained infertility, she decided that we'll focus on my stress level and try to get it under control. Hannah took my pulse and said it was pretty good, but that there was an aspect to it that depicted stress. Go figure, I thought! I'm getting ready to have needles jabbed into me!
The needles were placed in my feet, ankles, wrists, and ears, and one right in the middle of my forehead. I think there were 3 in each ear, 1 or 2 in each foot, 3 in each ankle, and 3 in each wrist. And I have to admit, they really didn't hurt at all. One of the ones in my right ear smarted a bit when it first was placed, but after that it didn't hurt at all. I lay there for about 20 minutes, but I was so relaxed, it felt like I'd only been there for about 5. I must say, it may have been more relaxing than a massage at times! When I got home and looked in the mirror, I think my skin tone even looked better. I know I sure felt better.
Hannah also gave me some information on nutritional supplements to check my prenatal vitamins for, as well as dietary advice. She gave me a recipe for a smoothie to try so I can increase the fruits I eat in a day and get some of those necessary supplements. Now I'll I've got to do is go shopping for fresh fruit and stuff to make smoothies. We're not big at-home eaters around here, if you didn't know. At least we have a blender!
There are a couple thoughts on the whole acupuncture thing with IVF. Once says that you should do it from the beginning until the transfer; another says just right before and right after the transfer are enough to improve the results. I've decided to go ahead and try it about once a week until the transfer. My insurance doesn't cover the cost, but now that I've sold my Harley, we can afford it. And why not try everything we can to make this work, right?
I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the blog. I'll keep you posted!
